Penny Lift, Brighton
The Madeira Lift, nicknamed the Penny Lift after its original fare, has carried people between Marine Parade and Madeira Drive since the Victorian era. It sits within the cast-iron arches of the Madeira Terraces. This oil painting is by Brighton-based plein air painter Tony Parsons, who grew up in Woodingdean, just above the city.
A lovely gift for anyone who knows Kemptown and the seafront.
